Nairobi

The only capital on earth with a national park inside city limits — lions with skyscraper backdrops, giraffes at breakfast, and a creative-tech scene they call Silicon Savannah.

Scouted = vetted and pre-checked, not yet walked by us. When we walk it, you'll know. ✦

Safety for Us
★★★★★ Strong diaspora welcome — standard big-city awareness downtown

Safari at breakfast.
Skyline at lunch.

Nairobi's party trick is unmatched: a full national park — lions, rhinos, giraffes — starts where the runway ends, wild plains with a skyline backdrop. Add the Giraffe Centre's face-to-face feedings and the elephant orphanage's morning mud baths, and the city delivers safari magic before lunch.

It's also East Africa's engine: the Silicon Savannah tech scene, a gallery-and-maker wave in Karen and Westlands, and a nyama choma (grilled meat) culture that treats Sunday as a feast day. The diaspora welcome here scouts consistently warm.

And it's the gateway: the Masai Mara's great migration (July–October) is a short flight, and every serious safari itinerary in the region routes through this town. We build the extension in from the start.

Square kilometers of Nairobi National Park — the world's only capital-city safari. Rhinos graze against the skyline seven kilometers from downtown.
Jul–Oct
The Masai Mara's great-migration window — a 45-minute flight away. The wildebeest crossings are the greatest wildlife show on earth; we book the camps early.

Six moves, binoculars ready.

01
Nairobi National Park at Dawn
Gates at six, lions before coffee, the skyline photobombing every shot. A half-day safari without leaving the city — the signature Nairobi flex.
02
Giraffe Centre Face-to-Face
The Rothschild giraffes take pellets from your palm (and plant kisses on the bold). Conservation with the best photo-op in Africa.
03
Elephant Orphanage Morning
The Sheldrick Trust's babies tumble in for their mud bath and bottles — book the 11am visit ahead, fall in love, foster one on the way out.
04
Karen Blixen & the Ngong Hills
The Out of Africa farmhouse and the hills that framed it — colonial history held critically, landscape held gladly. Lunch in leafy Karen after.
05
Maasai Market Circuit
Beadwork, carvings, kikoys — the rotating market's vendors bring the craft; you bring patience and the bargaining smile. Culture, commerce, joy.
06
The Mara Extension
Two nights minimum in the Masai Mara — balloon at dawn if the budget sings, river crossings in season. The reason the region exists on bucket lists; we build it in.

Pick your Nairobi.

Karen / Langata · The Green Base
Safari-Side Suburbs
Garden hotels and boutique cottages near the giraffes, elephants, and park gates. Leafy calm, wildlife-first logistics.
Westlands · The City Pulse
Business & Social District
Rooftop bars, malls, restaurants, and the tech-scene buzz — Nairobi's urban energy with airport and park access.

Choma Sundays and chai always.

The Institution
Nyama Choma
Grilled goat and beef by the kilo, kachumbari salad, ugali to anchor it — Sunday's national sport. The roadside joints with smoke and crowds are the ones.
The Daily
Chai & Mandazi
Spiced milky tea and pillowy fried dough — Kenya runs on this pairing from dawn. Accept it everywhere; it's hospitality's handshake.
The Coastal Import
Swahili Plates
Coconut-bean stews, pilau, and biryanis up from the coast — the Swahili corridor's flavors in the capital's kitchens. Friday's pilau pots go fast.
